Majka Burhardt is a writer, climber, and guide. Based in Boulder, Colorado, her experience as a guide and writer enable her to take on assignments not only in North America, but throughout the world. Her first book, Vertical Ethiopia:Climbing Towards Possibility in the Horn of Africa, was published in February. Majka is spending the greater part of 2008 on tour for the book. Majka Burhardt has an MFA in Creative Writing from the Warren Wilson Program for Writers and received her BA from Princeton University, majoring in Anthropology. She merges these backgrounds with her passion for the outdoors and adventure in her writing.
Majka spent November and December of 2007 in South Africa for an upcoming article and is now in the US promoting Vertical Ethiopia. She writes often for various magazines including Patagonia, Women's Adventure, the Explorers Journal, and Climbing, where she is a Senior Contributing Editor and her column “Whipped” appears bi-monthly. Majka also has a new blog, The Liminal Line.
A climbing guide since 1998, Majka Burhardt has guided the entire range of climbing disciplines from high-altitude mountaineering expeditions to multi-pitch alpine rock climbs. As an AMGA Certified Rock Guide, she currently guides in Colorado, Nevada, California, and is available to guide in other states and internationally.
